The objective of this project is to highlight the issue of food insecurity among the elderly. In particular, the article talks about how to provide adequate nutrition to the elderly and how that impacts their lives. The idea behind the Gastronomic Journey is to provide an opportunity for learning about healthy eating, bringing accessible food to the community through dining experiences, and urban farming for the elderly and local community. A key component of the program is interactive design, allowing the elderly as members of the community to interact in communicative ways.
Design Approach
As a small island state in Southeast Asia, Singapore has limited natural sources, with 1% of its land for agricultural use. As result of an intricate global supply chain and limited local supply of food affect the food security of Singapore's population. In 2019, Singapore ranked as the most food-secure nation in the world.
Nevertheless, one in ten Singaporeans has experienced food insecurity at least once in the past year. This project will be located at Old Airport Rd food centre level 2, most of the population in the site area is elderly. According to research, 80% of Singapore's elderly are at risk of malnutrition: factors that may contribute to this include a lack of smell, loneliness, physical and mental impairment, as well as financial difficulties.
This project will examine Singapore's food security, focusing on how to provide adequate nutrition for the elderly and how it impacts their daily lives. Additionally, this site can also be used as a communal area in which young adults can interact with each other and contribute to their local communities. The program aims to make it easier for the elderly to consume healthy food as they age.

Aside from providing healthy food to an older member of the community, the program will also introduce young adults to urban farming and boost the local economy.
Design Concept

The design is based on the veining of leaves . The venation of leaves contributes to the ecosystem, agriculture, and technology for distribution, productivity, and nutrient distribution. Veins on the blade of the leaf are arranged in a pattern. Through the vascular system, food is transported. The idea link to the distribution of safe and nutritious food in the community, especially for the elderly. It is possible to demonstrate how spatial design development is implemented in the layout plan, spatial elements, and texture of the building.

Incorporating the existing climate in the area of 51 Old Airport Rd into the space development. This type of building usually has many openings that allow the sun to illuminate it. Besides setting the moods and enhancing materials, natural light also contributes to the energy and flow of the space itself. With the use of different types of light, users experience a lively ambiance and are able to enjoy a vibrant experience. The correlation between natural light and positivity has been a fascination for the building, space, and users.

This proposal attempts to reconnect to nature by bringing the outdoor environment inside to create a restful and quiet place influenced by the inclusion of natural materials and plant life. By incorporating nature into the design, it can improve the general well-being of the user by a reduction in stress levels, and enhancing the cognitive level and creativity of the elderly and the community. The interior will revolve around a sense of simplicity, raw materials, and lots of natural light. Therefore, materials such as bamboo are contrasted with contemporary concrete and wood.
